WINNING TEAM MEMBER
The New York Chapter of the Retail Design Institute (RDI) held its 6th annual Iron Design Challenge student event. Benefiting PAVE, the event took place Nov. 13 at the Shaw Contract showroom in New York.
Students from New York-based design schools were invited to show off their skills to design an Equinox retail pop-up shop. The four student teams, each made up of six students, focused on designing a 750-sq.-ft. store that would best showcase the Equinox brand and its private-label products within just over an hour. A group of executives from design firms, brands and retailers were on-hand to act as mentors.
Designs were then judged by a panel of industry experts—Jessie Dowd, editor in chief, design: retail; Cynthia Hirsch, RDI NY Chapter president; Bill Commer, founder and principal, WJCA Architecture; and Lee Zheng, director of design, Equinox.
The winning team was Team #2, mentored by Alex Chacon of L’Occitane and Jowita Karolina of TPG Architecture. The winning students were: Sarah Luna Van Arsdale, Parsons/New School; Nicole Wolert, NYIT; Patrick Zavorsuas, LIM; Guillermo Marrero and Saman Chaudhri, FIT; and Evelin Tracz, NYSID.
